November/December 2008

Dear Pastors, Praying Partners, Friends and Family;

“But when the fulness of the time was come...” Gal. 4:4

This verse has a special significance to each of us at this time of year! What a blessing to know that God is ALWAYS RIGHT ON TIME! God sent His only begotten Son right on time! This verse also holds a lot of significance for our family right now, because the Lord has opened a door for our family RIGHT ON TIME! (more about this in a moment)

First of all, we would like to thank you for your patience and your prayers. The last few months have been a discouraging wait for us, but a time of valuable experience as well. We were able to establish communication again with Bro. Aya in Colombia. The paperwork necessary for the ministry to sponsor us into the country was rejected the first go-around. They made what they believe to be the necessary changes and re-submitted the paperwork. The estimated time for this second attempt is a minimum of 2 months, possibly longer…

We have asked the Lord for wisdom and direction, and He gave us peace and direction for the next step. Because of the already long delay and the uncertainty of the delay still remaining, we prayed about getting our language training behind us. We believe God has clearly led us to travel to Santiago, Panama for 9 months to begin our language training. Panama, the next door neighbor and former province of Colombia (until 1903), provides ample opportunity for immersion in Spanish. (Both my wife and I spent almost 3 years in Panama in the U.S. Army (1992-1995), but this was before either of us were saved.) Our focus will first and foremost be language acquisition and fluency, but we will also be in a situation where we can also have ample opportunity for outreach and ministry.

We have purchased round-trip airline tickets departing on January 13th with a return to the US on Oct. 6th, 2009. (When obtaining a religious visa, we cannot enter Colombia directly from Panama, but must return to the U.S.) We are confident that this is the Lord’s perfect will for our life AT THIS TIME. *~*We know many will ask the question we have asked ourselves – is the Lord closing the door to Colombia? *~* We have no reason to believe that He is. We trust that this is just a necessary step in His purpose and will.

We ask for your prayers as we finalize our packing, and all the preparations for departure. Please pray for our family as we settle in Panama, that we would be a blessing to the ministry of Cristobal Yañez and a help in the Panama School Project. Please pray for maximum effectiveness for our cultural and language learning. Pray with us for quick proficiency in the language and for fluency to effectively preach Christ crucified.

It will take us a little time to get settled following the move, but we should be able to keep in fairly regular contact by e-mail. If you would like to be added to our e-mail update list, please contact us.

Thank each of you for your faithful prayers!
