January/February Prayer Update

“Señor, ¿qué quieres que yo haga?” Hechos 9:6

January/February 2009

Dear Pastors, Praying Partners, Friends and Family;

The verse above is the Spanish version of Acts 9:6 which says “Lord, what wilt thou have me to do?” This was the first Spanish verse I committed to memory and has been the over-riding theme for our family since we arrived here in Panama.

We would like to thank you for your prayers for our family during this time of transition. Overall, we can say that it has gone extremely well, with the Lord giving much confirmation and encouragement along the way. We arrived in Panama City on Jan. 13th where we had a very warm reception (we left from icy Chicago and arrived to 90°summer weather). While there have been challenges, such as all seven of the children coming down with chicken pox (several pretty severely) in the first 3 weeks, there has also been great peace knowing that we are in the perfect will of God. Just one of the many answers to prayer was His provision for a 5 bedroom rental home here in Santiago, for a mere $200 per month! That is extremely affordable, even by Panamanian standards! Also, because we are located less than a block from the brand new baseball stadium, we’ve had opportunity to distribute about 6,000 tracts in the last five days with the help of the brethren here, and we look forward to seeing how the Lord will bless the seed sown.

Our arrival in Panama was also just in time to help with initial reception and distribution of books for the Panama School Project. Lord willing, over the next month we will help with the delivery of a Bible-based curriculum (absolutely free) to the public school system here in Panama for use in the 4th-6th grades. Unlike the U.S., Panama law still requires students to take religious classes. How exciting it is to have Independent Baptists cooperating to provide the public schools with a Scripture portion and presentation of the Gospel! The last information we have received on the progress of the paperwork in Colombia was not very encouraging. The paperwork continues to be at a standstill. We are trusting the Lord for His will to be revealed in His time. Meanwhile, we are privileged to work and wait.

Please continue to pray with us for proficiency in our cultural and language learning. Pray with us for safety as we help in the distribution of literature and for wisdom for planning.

Thank each of you for your faithful prayers!

Prayer Challenge:
“The reason why many fail in battle is because they wait until the hour of battle. The reason why others succeed is because they have gained their victory on their knees long before the battle came...Anticipate your battles; fight them on your knees before temptation comes, and you will always have victory.” - R.A.
